Will YOU be My VALENTINE this Valentine's DAY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are looking forward to celebrate on more Valentine's day on 14th Feb, this year. I must try to tell the history of this celebration at least in a small way.

Legend has it that in the 3rd century, the Roman emperor Claudius II banned marriages to prevent draft dodgers. Only single men had to go into the army - and too many young men were getting married.

A Christian priest named Valentinus of Rome ignored the ban, continuing to officiate marriages in secret. Valentinus was caught and sentenced to death -

an order carried out on February 14. Another story tells of a priest named Valentinus who was jailed and later executed for helping Christians. He fell for his jailer's daughter and sent her plaintiff love notes signed "from your Valentine".
An alternative theory from Belarus states that the holiday originates from the story of Saint Valentine, who upon rejection by his mistress was so heartbroken that he took a knife to his chest and sent her his still-beating heart as a token of his undying love for her. Hence, heart-shaped cards are now sent as a tribute to his overwhelming passion and suffering
Now a days it has become a fashion and passion(?) to celebrate this day. Sending cards and presents on this day has given great boost for the commercial side. The tv channels, print media and web sites mint money by creating hype of this day.
I am not coming to the commercial side of it. What I wanted to say was that this day is for the lovers and once you are in love whatever you do for LOVE is the right thing!
Love is a subtle feeling
To understand love one must either love some one or must be loved by some one
Being in love is the only way to know this feeling.
Love is immortal
Lovers are mortal and fade out in due course.
But certain great lovers have left signs/ marks for us to assess how intensely they loved and how well they understood this feeling!
Taj mahal
Changampusha’s Ramanan
Love songs penned by vayalar
Love poems written by great poets
Love movies such as love story, bobby, ek duje ke liye , romeo julliet etc all remain such monuments.

Past scenario
In love it’s as important to express your love as you love some one.
There would have been much more successful love stories, had the love felt was expressed in time. But in those days the best possible way of communication was exchanging letters. The other possible way was meeting the loved one in places like temple, church, marriage functions etc. but the hesitant nature on the part of lovers made their love remain one sided.
Present scenario
Today lovers are blessed with technology and they can express their love through SMS, E –mail, channels (by dedicating songs to the loved ones) etc. The valentine day celebration gives the present day lovers a golden chance to express their love!

Being said so much I must admit that nothing would or should come in
between the lovers if they love each other sincerely, except the four
letters word called FATE!
i think the Sree Ram Sena's protest against this day has made this year's celebration more popular ! i would like to look at the funny side of this movement_
A son to his father" we, myself and my colleague were just having coffee in a restaurant, the Sena people came with pandit and made us husband & wife, please meet your daughter in law!!!!"
I welcome valentine day celebrations as it gives an opportunity to express the love to the loved ones and reduce the one sided love affairs to a great extent'
One last line------------ KOTHI THEERUM VARE IVIDE PREMICHU MARICHAVARUNDO?

  1. Yes, what you said is true, to know the beauty of love, it has to be experienced.
Now-a-days, it is very easy . They prefer to say it as 'deep friendship' which can be cut off/thrown at any time.

  3. I dont totally agree with a valentine's day. One should able to express his/her love at any time of the year and no lover will wait for 14th Feb to express his love. As there are Mother's day, children's day, etc we have made on more addition to the days of the year. In colleges, girls and boys are expressing their lvoe throughout the year. To me , this day is not significant and it is like any other day of the year.
