What is recession?

we have been hearing the terms "RECESSION" "global meltdown" etc repeatedly these days.is this a serious issue to be dicussed by all and sundry ? i think media has made it a bigger issue than actually it is! we too actually FUEL this recession much more than we think
please read the following and assess yourself
This Story is about a man who once upon a time was selling SANDWICH by the roadside.
He was illiterate, so he never read newspapers. He was hard of hearing, so he never listened to the radio.
His eyes were weak, so he never watched television.. But enthusiastically, he sold lots of hotdogs.
He was smart enough to offer some attractive schemes to increase his sales. His sales and profit went up.
He ordered more and more raw material & buns and used to sell more & more. He recruited few more supporting staff to serve more customers.
He started offering home deliveries. Eventually he got himself a bigger and better stove.
As his business was growing, the son, who had recently graduated from College, joined his father.
Then something strange happened.
The son asked, "Dad, aren't you aware of the great recession that is coming our way?" The father replied, "No, but tell me about it." The son said, "The international situation is terrible. The domestic situation is even worse. We should be prepared for the coming bad times."
The man thought that since his son had been to college, read the papers, listened to the radio and watched TV. He ought to know and his advice should not be taken lightly. So the next day onwards, the father cut down the his raw material order and buns, took down the colourful signboard, removed all the special schemes he was offering to the customers and was no longer as enthusiastic.
He reduced his staff strength by giving layoffs. Very soon, fewer and fewer people bothered to stop at his hotdog stand. And his sales started coming down rapidly, same is the profit.
The father said to his son, "Son, you were right". "We are in the middle of a recession and crisis. I am glad you warned me ahead of time."

: It's all in your MIND! And we actually FUEL this recession much more than we think

  2. I think recession or the global meltdown is going to happen one time or other and it is not a new and unique phenomena. If I am not mistaken it happened in 1930s also. As per science, there is one law called "Law of conservation" of energy, mass, momentum etc. Even in stock markets everybody cannot make profit and somebody has to bear the loss to offset the same. Even in gambling, few make profits and many loose their money. Bcoz the gambler is not giving from his pocket. It is like robbing Peter to Pay Paul. How the people are affected by the recession depends upon the gravity of the situation of the individual concerned. For example, perhaps the father in your above case would not have been affected if he continued with his usual method of selling his items and not heeded the advice of his son.

  4. It is a pleasure to arrive at desired result in such calculation by giving numbers arbitrarily. But the result is not universal in the context that it may change and the end result may be different if the number of alphabets in English are little more or less. For that matter if the same is formula is applied for another language ie. Hindi, tamil or Malayalam the end result would be different which may not be in linewith the realities in a way it work out with English alphabets.
