We have studied “rain rain go away little Tomy wants to play” but now we will have to pray
Rain Rain Come Again!
The monsoon season is on but hardly we get any rain these days. Normally all will be happy during this season as all our wells, ponds; rivers will be full of water and even flooded. But this year there is shortage of drinking water in most parts of our small state. The Govt has introduced POWER CUT to over come the water shortage in catchments area The Rainy Gods do not shower their blessings on us.
During our school days the monsoon season was different. Rains used to come to school along with all of us on the very opening day itself. It was a scene to be seen that the young kids getting fully wet by standing in the rains. Some of them would be dancing holding their umbrellas! Rains gave us a chance to be merry &happy.
Even after the school hours there were lot of fun in the rainy season. Playing foot ball in rains is still fresh in my memory. So is the swimming in the flooded river!
Most of the houses on those days were having thatched /tiled roofs. The rain water used to enter all houses through the little openings in the roofs when it rained very heavily. Children used to place buckets/pots under such openings and collect water through out the night when there was heavy rain. This scene also is fresh in my memory. Lying awake and listening to the music of rain rim jim was a good past time on those days! But the present generation (if not fully, most of them) terribly miss all the fun connected with the monsoon season.
Yes these are very silly things for the new generation!
Now a days we hardly allow our children to get wet in rains and there by deny them the pleasure we enjoyed in our younger days. As most of the houses are having RCC roof these days, the chance of enjoying the Rim jim music of rain is also lost. And the enjoyment of collecting rain water through the opening in the roof also is lost for ever...
Why the season has changed so drastically?
The exact reason I am not able to tell you. But I firmly believe that once we stopped enjoying the rains& its music and started denying the pleasure of it to our next generation, the rain gods also decided to deny us rains!
