MEHAR BAANI

On 27th of this month I got a SMS which stated

that every body is looking forward to

second October, Gandhiji’s birthday but no one

bothers to remember 27th September, which is the birth day

of one of the great son of India ever produced –

the birthday of BAGATH SINGH. –WHY?

The very first answer came to my mind was that

second October being a national holiday everybody remembers it.

But later I replied to the sender of the SMS that

it is the difference of being Mahatma & martyr
But the question WHY does not leave me there

it came repeatedly to my mind

Both Gandhiji & Bagath Singh are great leaders

of our FREEDOM MOVEMENT,

One followed the path of Ahimsa and the other

believed in the end result rather than the means.

Gandhiji could convince his followers his views and

take them to the Ahimsa path and he proved

correct by getting us the FREEDOM

When my mind started to think of the Mahatma ,

a drama which I heard in AKASAVAANI came to my mind .

This happened long back and the play was titled

MEHAR BAANI.

Now I do not remember the full text of the drama ,

but I do remember the gist

There was a famous doctor, a widower.

He had a son, due to pre occupation to his profession

he did not find enough time for his son. The loneliness in the house and

huge amount of money given as given as pocket money spoil the son .

As the saying goes you reap what you sow,

the son also gets the punishment for his misdeeds.

A person who suffered a lot of humiliation because of the

misdeeds of the son kills him. The police arrests the killer

and puts him in jail.

Later he was taken to the hospital of the doctor for treatment .

The doctor decides to take revenge for his only son’s killing ,

forgetting his profession &all ethics.

He examines the patient and advises him to go for

a major operation immediately. The police also gives

permission for the operation.

On the operation day the patient is

administrated anesthesia and kept ready for the operation

The doctor has a prayer room in the hospital and

he used to pray for sometime before every operation he conducts.

This time also he enters his prayer room and prays for pardoning him.

In his prayer room idols of Jesus, Ram & Krisha are there

and along with these there is sandal statue of mahatma.

Finishing his prayer the doctor just looks at the statue of Gandhiji,

suddenly he feels that the statue tells him

“Mehar Baani Mehar Baani” on hearing this words

he understands the meaning of the saying –

"To Forget is human but to forgive is divine" -.

The doctor decides to forgive and the drama ends

where the doctor tells the killer all the above.

Even a statue of Gandhi can change you

and make you softer.

There is no doubt that the real

Gandhiji with all his charisma

made the people to trust him

and follow the path of non violence !

I pay tributes to Gandhiji on his

birth anniversary today

I also salute the Great son of the motherland

–Bagath Singh too
